Milagres: A person was injured after a branch of a banyan tree fell on a bus near Ideal Ice Cream Parlour at Hampankatta here on Monday January 28th.

According to the available information, the branch fell all of a sudden on the bus. The person who sustained injuries was waiting for a bus at the location then. Eyewitnesses say that if had not the bus been there, more people would have suffered injuries.

Apparently the banyan tree is revered by the people and also has a ‘katte’ around the tree called ‘Appanna Katte’ and the name Hampankatta, supposedly came from this, it is assumed. People offer prayers and puja to this tree on auspicious occasions of the Sharavu Ganapathi Temple, Mangaluru.
