Century old SVT aided higher primary school

Karkala: Century old SVT aided higher primary school has 320 students but only 2 permanent teachers. Since the last 25 years, no teachers have been appointed to this school which provides education from 1st std to 7th std.

Upgraded in 1934

The school began to function in 1911 with its own building near Mahalaxmi temple in Karkala with the name Hindu girl’s school and in 1934, it was upgraded as a higher primary school and renamned as SVT aided higher primary school.

Uniform distribution

Since it is an aided school, it not only gets all the government facilities, but also free uniforms and notebooks are provided to the students here. Talented students are also provided special sponsorship with assistance from donors. Special encouragement is provided to extra-curricular activities here including Yakshagana and Yoga.

If provided importance, it will become convenient

Of the aided schools in the taluk, the number of SVT students is the highest. Hence, if more teachers are appointed, it will become convenient to provide more importance to the schoolM Janakinatha Rao, Headmistress, SVT higher primary school

The government needs to appoint teachers

The government should provide required teachers to aided schools. In cases wherein teachers are getting retired, new teachers are not being appointed. The required number of teachers must be appointed in comparison to the student strength, opinion teaching experts.

No response to appeals

With a history of a hundred years, enough efforts are being put to carry on SVT Kannada higher primary school in a good way. Although multiple appeals have been submitted to the government regarding the appointment of teachers, the government has failed to even take notice. The government needs to carry out the responsibility of filling up empty posts or appointing additional teachersK P Shenoy, secretary, SVT education trust

Rs 24 lakh monetary assistance

In order to fulfill the lack of teachers, Sri Venkataramana Education Trust and Sri Venekataramana temple’s administrative council which looks after the schools administration has appointed 8 honourary teachers. The trust bears an annual expense of around Rs 24 lakh every year for paying salaries to the honourary teachers, transportation of the students and school developmental works.
