Islamabad (Pakistan): Pakistan parliament today passed two unanimous resolutions condemning terror attacks in Iran and expressing concern at the diplomatic rift in the Gulf region.
The first resolution moved by Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid expressed solidarity with the Iranian people.
The National Assembly in the resolution strongly condemned the terrorist attacks on Iran’s parliamentary complex and the shrine of revolutionary founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini which killed 17 people and wounded dozens.
The resolution reiterated the resolve to “jointly combat the menace of terrorism with our neighbours in the region,” ‘Radio Pakistan’ reported.
Speaking at the floor of the House, the members said the whole nation stood with Iranians in this hour of grief.
They said that terrorism was a common threat and collective efforts were needed for its eradication.
The House also adopted another unanimous resolution expressing deep concerns over the recent diplomatic crises in the Gulf region.
The resolution moved by Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao called upon all the countries to show restraint and resolve all their differences through dialogue.
It also called upon the government to take concrete steps towards forging unity among the Muslim countries in the region.
Speaking on the issue of diplomatic crisis, the members said the Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar and all other countries were equally important for Pakistan.
They said that Pakistan should play a neutral role to mediate for the amicable resolution of the differences among the Gulf countries.
On Monday, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt announced that they were cutting diplomatic relations with Qatar, along with closure of travel links.
The Gulf nations accused Qatar of supporting “terrorism”.
