Parliamentary SCOD to visit Karwar naval base on Jan 20

Karwar: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence will visit the INS Kadamba naval base near here on January 20 and 21.
A total of 31 committee members, including chairman of the committee Jual Oram, committee members Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Sanjay Raut, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Ashok Bajpayee, Premachand Gupta, TR Parvinder will be supervising the naval base development works and other facilities.
The committee has 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 11 members from the Rajya Sabha.
The naval base here was the dream of Indira Gandhi, it was approved when Rajiv Gandhi became prime minister but was implemented in 1998 when George Fernandes was the defence minister.
The naval base was dedicated to the country by the then Defense Minister Pranab Mukherjee in 2005.
