Mangaluru: As the assembly election came to an end in Karnataka, diesel and petrol prices have been mounting up every day worrying average consumers about inflation.
There are rumors that the price hike may continue with the price of petroleum products increasing by three to four rupees per litres within a few days due to spiraling global oil prices.
Petrol price increased by 17 paise per litre on Monday, 30 paise on Tuesday, and 30 paise on Wednesday.
Shivananda Prabhu, a dealer of petroleum products in the city, said that usually prices go up by three to six paise per litre per day but a 30 paise increase everyday is a phenomenon not witnessed in the last several months.
Current petrol costs Rs 76.22 and diesel Rs 67.64. These prices are valid till 6 am, Saturday. The price in Udupi is Rs 76.11 for petrol and 67.51 for diesel.
Price hikes were on a pause for consumers between April 24 and May 15 on account of state election.
