Police murder attempt case: Court exonerates four accused

Mangaluru: The court discharged four persons who were accused of attempting to kill police personnel of the special intelligence bureau a few years. The judgement was delivered on Thursday, June 20. The exonerated persons are Muhammed Mallik, Praveen Pinto, Raghavendra, and Sanjay.
Incident synopsis
On August 8, 2009, the police had got information that a notorious gang from Bengaluru had arrived in the city to commit robbery. Hence a police team was led to Padavinangady by sub-inspector Prakash K and later they spotted a car carrying the robbers near Swarnagauri Layout there and signalled the car to stop. However, the robbers dashed their vehicle against the police vehicle and moved ahead. In response, the police chased the car on bikes ordering the accused to surrender. It is learnt that in this melee, Sardar alias Lal Bahadur, a notorious rowdy from Bengaluru opened fire on police. Hence, police constable Sunil, returned fire killing Sardar.
Murder attempt case
Later, the police filed case of murder attempt against Muhammed Mallik, Praveen Pinto, Raghavendra and Sanjay. However, the Judge of the third additional court here, Muraleedhar Pai, concluded that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges and ordered release of the accused.
Advocates Asha Nayak, Dinakar Shetty, Sunil Kumble, Vinod Paul and Jeevan Kolya had argued in favour of the accused.
