Police to start using less lethal weapons to control crowd

Bengaluru: The police will soon start using stun guns and different less-lethal weapons especially while controlling crowds in order to deploy law and order in the society.

On the off chance that things go as indicated by the arrangement, the men in khaki will carry electroshock devices, alongside batons and lathis, to immobilize potential suspects.

The Communications, Logistics and Modernisation (CL&M) wing of the police has plans to convey the advanced weaponry as it has been a long time since the police force had its weapons innovated. A portion of the customary weapons in the arsenal even go back to World War II.

If authorized, the tasers and stun guns would add quality to the current non-lethal instruments like fibre or wooden lathis, wooden stick, tear gas shells, elastic rubber bullets and water guns.

The CL&M wing met ADGP and IGP-level officers at the state police base camp three weeks prior and asked them list down their requirements.

“The modernisation will be eliminated in and staged through 2018-19 and 2019-20,” said Malini Krishnamurthy, ADGP, Communications, Logistics and Modernisation.

“We’ve talked about the plans and the financial plan. The division will keep in touch with the administration before the finish of March to secure and issue the weapons.”

The scope of deadly weapons, in any case, would continue as same as the collection of firearms and explosives had been refreshed to eliminate traditional instruments and incorporate new improvised weapons, said a senior police official.
