Psychiatrists to help Karnataka Police in every district soon

Bengaluru: Karnataka home ministry has decided to raise the number of counseling centres in the state for police personnel and appoint psychiatrists to every district in an attempt to improve the physical and mental strength of the police personnel in the state. The decision came as the police moving forward to commit suicide following mental stress, harassment by the senior officers, lack of leisure, family issues and others in recent years. The government has already appointed single separate psychiatrist for every district in the state and the appointed medicos are expected to join their dusty soon.
As many as 50 police personnel who were on their duty have committed suicide in the 3 last years in Karnataka state. The list of 50 police includes, DYSP B Ganapathi, Chikkamagaluru DYSP Kallappa Handibag, Mallur CPI Raghavendra and others. In 2014, 11 police personnel were committed the act followed by 21 in 2015, 17 in 2016 and 1 in 2017.
