Puttur: Techie arrested after 20 years for petty theft

Puttur: A crime committed 20 years ago caught up with an IT employee with his arrest by Puttur police from Tamil Nadu on May 28.
Suryaraj alias Chennakeshava of Nehru Nagar Swami Compound, who had been absconding in a theft case at a petty shop at Puttur Padil was arrested.
Chennakeshava currently worked at an IT firm in Murphy Nagar in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
According to the police, four youths, including Chennakeshava, had been arrested and produced before the court on allegations of burglary at a petty store owned by Vasantha Gowda at Puttur Padil on June 10, 2002. The youths faced allegations of stealing groceries and Rs 1,500 from the shop.
However, Chennakeshava went absconding midway through the trial. The court had issued an arrest warrant against him.
In the absence of Chennakeshava, the court later had acquitted the three accused in the case.
