Belthangady: As the rainy season started in Karnataka, there has been an increase in accidents in Charmadi Ghat road.
In one such incident, a car that was going from Dharmastala to Bengaluru met with an accident with a mini goods tempo on Saturday, June 13. The front portion of the car has been completely damaged and Tempo has fallen to drainage. All the passengers suffered minor wounds.
As per sources, around 22 accidents have been reported in the last two weeks, in which 6 accidents were severe.
The Highway Department has repaired the road in 11 sharp turns of the ghat and re-tarred the roads.
“As the surface of the road will be wet due to the rain, Even though the drivers apply break in curves the vehicle loses its balance due to the shininess of the road,” said the drivers.
Apparently, the movement of vehicles in the Ghat is less due to the Covid-19 lockdown and there is been accidents due to over speeding as well, informed sources.
