Padubidri: In order to tackle issue of dumping of garbage in open spaces, the Belapu Gram Panchayat has decided to not only impose Rs 2000 penalty for violators, but anyone providing information on such wrong-doers will be given Rs 1000 cash reward.

The Panchayat has launched the “Swaccha Mewa Jayathe” drive to create awareness on solid waste management and scientific disposal of garbage, as per the directions of state government.

Apart from the penalty and reward initiative the Panchayat has introduced night beat system to discourage vehicles from dumping waste. Moreover, CCTV cameras have been installed at strategic locations. The garbage collection vehicles also visit houses once in three days to collect garbage, informed Panchayat President Deviprasad Shetty.

Further he informed that the Panchayat has installed a temporary Solid Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) unit for scientific disposal of the waste.

If people continue to dump garbage despite being penalised, the panchayat will file police complaint and withdraw all facilities from such violators, he added.
