Rs 4-cr heist at Muthoot Finance foiled as alarm goes off

Two people were caught red-handed while attempting to break open the locker of Muthoot Finance, a gold loan non-banking financial company in East Bengaluru here.
The arrested – Rohan, 22, and Agari, 28 – hailing from Nepal were employed as security guards at apartments in East Bengaluru, police said.
The accused used to visit the branch to transfer money home and had seen people borrow money by pledging gold and decided to steal it.
However, the security alarm went off when they were trying to break open the locker with an axle blade. Alerted by the alarm, Jayachandran S, regional room manager of Muthoot Finance called the police and the emergency services department. He also rushed to the branch with the firm’s vigilance team.
Upon reaching the spot, the police and the vigilance team found the shutter half-open and heard noises from within. They rushed inside and caught the duo.
The safe contained Rs 4 crore in cash and gold jewellery .
