Mangaluru: Yearly, close to 6,000 infants are born at the Government Lady Goshen Hospital and giving ear to the request of a doctor to provide basic facilities to the hospital, the representatives of the people have been successful in providing additional financial help for the purpose.
An additional Rs 5.7 crore has been sanctioned on behalf of MRPL-ONGC for the purchase of machinery and equipment.
Due to the lack of machinery and equipment, it is not being possible to give good service at the NICU here. Dr Kiran Baliga had sent a whatsapp message to MLA Vedavyas Kamath stating that the close to 6,000 infants take birth at the hospital annually and action needs to be taken soon to provide basic facilities here. In response the MLA sent him a message asked the doctor to personally speak with him and provide him the details. Accordingly, the doctor explained the situation to the MLA.
The MLA and MP then sent a written letter to MRPL-ONGC requesting them to provide additional financial assistance to the hospital and were successful in its sanctioning.
MRPL-ONGC had provided financial help from its CRZ fuds for the construction of a new building at Lady Goshen Hospital. But there was a lack of funds for the purchase of essential machinery and equipment here. Because of this the doctors as well as the pubic were facing problems.
