Mangaluru: Since restoration work was being done through the removal of the collapsed mud on Shiradi Ghat road which connects Bengaluru-Mangaluru and as a public safety measure, Dakshina Kannada (D.K.) district deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil had banned passage of all types of vehicles along Shiradi Ghat until further notice.

Two container drivers booked

Uppinangady: Even with the indefinite ban on vehicular movement along Shiradi Ghat road, Uppinangady police have booked a case against two container drivers for passing through the Ghat without permission.

In order to maintain the ban on vehicular movement on Shiradi Ghat due to the possibility of a landslide, by the DC’s of D.K. and Hassan districts, police guard had been stationed in the undivided district. But, even then, the heavy vehicles attempted to pass through.

In regard to this, as per the complaint given by the policemen on guard duty, Uppinangady circle inspector Gopala Nayak immediately captured both the containers. It was then ascertained that Riyaz (38) alias Rauf and Mohan (37) alias Narayana Gowda had indeed driven their vehicles recklessly.

Policeman suspended

An Uppinangady policeman has been suspended from duty for allowing the passage of vehicles even when the ban of vehicular movement along the Ghat road was still in place.

Strict implementation only in D.K.

The ban on vehicular movement along the Shiradi Ghat has been strictly implemented only in D.k. district. However, vehicles pass daily from Hassan side by giving the name of a minister. This partiality must be stopped, demand the Malenadu Hita Rakshana Vedike.
