Mangaluru: The ban on single-use plastic will be enforced strictly in Mangaluru city and offenders will be imposed with heavy fines informed MCC commissioner.
Though a state-wide ban on single-use plastic had been imposed in the year 2016, the implementation of the same did not yield desired results.
The MCC, in accordance with the circular issued by National Green Tribunal (NGT)-SLC (State Level Committee) on August 27 will seize prohibited plastic without any warning during their inspection drives. Fines ranging from Rs 1000 to Rs 10000 will be imposed on the offender. If the rule is violated again, it can lead to cancellation of the trade license, an MCC release said.
Meanwhile four teams have been formed by the MCC for the inspection drive, which will commence from September 3. Each team will conduct three raids on weekly basis.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech this year and subsequently in his monthly radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’ appealed to people against using plastic to protect the environment.
