Mangaluru: Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport foiled another bid to smuggle gold into the country on May 28.
About 560 grams of 24-carat gold was seized from a passenger hailing from Bhatkal, who arrived at the airport on SpiceJet flight number SG060 from Dubai.
The market value of the gold seized is about Rs 29.12 lakh.
To avoid detection, the gold was packed in 3 oval-shaped packets in paste form mixed with solid gum and was hidden in the rectum of the passenger.
