Bengaluru: Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Siddaramiah on Tuesday paid tributes to Indira Gandhi on her 102nd birth anniversary.

Taking to Twitter he wrote, “Remembering Iron Lady of India and Former PM Smt. Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary.”

He further added, “She was the embodiment of Courage and a nightmare to enemy nations. Her decisive actions has helped us build capabilities to face any external threats. She was a leader who led by example.”

Former Deputy Chief Minister Parameshwar twitted, “Social change is brought about by those who dare and act, who can think unconventionally and who can court unpopularity.”

“Remembering one of the strongest leaders the world has ever seen, Indira Gandhi, on the occasion of her birth anniversary,” he added.

Born on November 19, 1917, Indira Gandhi was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. Indira Gandhi served as the first and only woman Prime Minister of India from January 1966 to March 1977 and again from January 1980 until her assassination in 1984.

She was assassinated by her own bodyguards at her official residence on October 31, 1984, months after she ordered Operation Bluestar, in which the army stormed the Golden Temple in Amritsar, one of the holiest Sikh shrines, to remove separatists hiding inside.
