Sirsi: Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Monday said that presently the State is not facing a lockdown situation.
He was speaking after inaugurating a COVID-19 vaccination centre here.
“If people of the State cooperate then there won’t be a need for lockdowns. It can be avoided by wearing facemasks and maintaining distances at public places,” he said.
“Nearly 50 lakh senior citizens and 15 lakh people over 45 years old in the State can get jabbed at the 273 vaccination centres in the State. The vaccine will be administered to them whether they have pre-registered or not,” the minister said.
“Spike in COVID-19 cases has been reported from other States including Maharashtra. For this reason, tests are being performed at the State’s borders. The borders have been tightened but movement across them have not been banned,” he added.
The first vaccines at the newly inaugurated vaccination centre were administered to the chairman of the Biodiversity Board Anantha Asheesara, water conservation expert Srinivas Hebbar and former State legislator Vivekananda Vaidya.
