State to build 5 lakh houses for people below poverty line

Bengaluru: Karnataka’s JD-S-Congress government  has set an objective of building five lakh houses across the state, including two lakh in Bengaluru, for poor families over the following five years, said an official on Friday. 

“The decision to building five lakh houses for the BPL (below poverty line) families was taken up Thursday at a meeting Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy held with top authorities of the department of Finance, Revenue and Urban and Rural Development,” said the official of the CM’s office. 

To be worked in stages over the next five years with monetary guide from the Central government, Kumaraswamy has guided the different departments to identify the lands required in cities, towns and villages across the state for the houses. 

“As the Chief Minister likewise holds the Finance portfolio, he will illuminate the fund allocation for the houses to be worked in this fiscal in the budget he will present in mid-July,” the official  said. 

State Housing Minister U.T. Abdul Khader of the Congress and senior officials of the department will estimate funds required for land procurement and building no less than one lakh houses for each year and submit it for the budgetary allocation. 

“The Chief Minister has additionally guided the authorities to embrace corporate style of working for actualizing the housing venture for the poor as it can possibly create several direct and indirect employment,” included the official.
