Stone pelting, vandalism during procession – Prohibitory orders in Kolar’s Mulbagal

Prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144 have been imposed in Mulbagal in the Kolar district for three days after violence during a procession. So far, police have registered 3 cases and taken 9 into custody.

Stones were reportedly pelted at a Sri Ram Shobha Yatra procession on Friday night, after which violence broke out. As per a report in The Indian Express, the procession began in the afternoon from Shivakeshava Nagar. When the procession reached Jahangir Mohalla around 7.40 pm, some miscreants pelted stones at an idol of Lord Ram being carried in the procession.

Soon, chaos ensued with both yatra participants as well as miscreants going on a rampage. Reports said that a motorbike was set on fire, while the windshields of two cars were damaged. A few people were reportedly injured in the incident.

Reports said that there was a power cut during the stone-pelting incident and the miscreant took advantage of the darkness to evade the heavy police protection around the procession.

Kolar district SP Devaraj had informed that police have been deployed at the scene to restore law and order, ANI reported.
