Surathkal: Mangaluru North Constituency BJP MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty has responded to the demands of developing the Surathkal Konkan Railway Station as published in Udayavani earlier.
The legislator has taken cognizance of the necessity of the infrastructure development and has taken the necessary steps to get Rs 1.25 cr sanctioned in total from both the state government as well as Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
Speaking to Udayavani he said, “I’ve observed the report published in the Udayavani about the need for a developmental push to the railway station. It’s also the dream of my constituency people. We have a lot of people travelling to Mumbai through this railway station, including labourers. Hence, I’ve discussed this in the MUDA meeting and have taken all necessary steps to get sanctioned a sum of Rs 1.25 cr towards the infrastructural development of the station. We are also waiting for permission to begin the Passenger Reservation System (PRS). We’ll come up with a blueprint for further development”
As per the development plan, approval of Rs 50 lakhs for marble flooring and ceiling has been received from the MUDA. Also, an amount of Rs 75 lakhs has been approved for the interlocking system and concretization of roads leading to the railway station by the urban development department of the state government.
Meanwhile, a demand from the people has also come stating that a stop for Mangala Lakshadweep Express (Ernakulam – Nizamuddin) and Maru Sagar Express (Ernakulam to Ajmer) be made in the Surathkal Railway Station itself, as currently, people have to go to Mangaluru to catch these trains.
