Surathkal: Toll on local vehicles opposed

Surathkal: The Nagarika Samithi Mangaluru has opposed the collection of toll from local vehicles at the toll plaza at NITK near Surathkal from March 1st.
On Wednesday, a meeting was held at Mangaluru highway authority office in which the officials of the toll plaza contractor company, Nagarika Samithi and highway officials participated.
Committee president Shubhschandra Shetty spoke and said, since many years local vehicles have been exempted from toll fee. Since there is no alternate road, the locals have to depend on the highway. A unanimous decision had been taken in the presence of the local people’s representatives, highway officials and deputy commissioner to provide to provide exemption toll fee for local vehicles. Now, the attempt to collect toll in the guise of loss is condemnable,” he said.
Since the contracting company has failed to come to a proper decision to provide exemption for local vehicles, a protest will be conducted on Thursday, he informed
