Teenager rape and murder case accused arrested

Udupi: A youth has been arrested by the police On Friday March 29th, in connection with the rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl at Sagri in Manipal. The arrested is identified as Hanumanthappa (29), originally from Badami, presently working a a day wage labourer and residing in Kaup.
His arrest comes in connection of the corpse of a teenage girl which was found by a woman near the railway tracks at Sagri in Manipal on Sunday March 10th. The victim was employed at the shop in Udupi.
The crime
According to the available details, the accused befriended the victim and promised her of getting her a better job. He took her to the jungle and raped her. When she threatened to complaint to her parents, he strangled her to death.
The investigation
This rape and murder case was a tough nut to crack since there was a severe lack of clues. Hence, the police took considerable time to nab the accused. The police conducted detailed investigation and eventually found CCTV camera footage from two different places in Udupi which revealed the victim travelling pillion on the bike of a man. However, much time was needed to identify the bike and the man since the footage lacked clarity.
The arrest
On Friday night March 29th, the police caught the accused in Udupi and arrested him. When grilled by the police, the accused admitted of his crime and spilled the beans.
