Transformer damaged, supply hit
A lightning strike during the intermittent rain since the two days hit the transformer that provides power to plant No. 2 at Thumbay. The pump supplies water to the ground level main water reservoir at Padil. Although emergency repair has been undertaken, the water supply until the completion of the repair will be on alternate days. The city area and Surathkal have been split into two divisions and the divisions will get water supply on alternative days, informed city corporation commissioner in a release.
Drinking water shortage in Udupi persists
Although the region has been receiving rain since Tuesday, River Swarna has not witnessed flow of water so far and the pumping activity continues towards mitigating drinking water problem of the citizens here. Water is being pumped from waterholes at five places and the waterhole under Manai bridge is full. If there is rain for another three to four days, the dam may be filled and the water may possibly flow out. Kundli dam may become full by today or tomorrow. Baje dam may get good storage once the other waterholes are filled.
