Two Die in 40 Feet Borewell in Gadag Despite Rescue Operations

Gadag: In an unfortunate incident, two persons, Shankrappa (40), Basavaraj (32) who got trapped underground died today at Savadi in Rona village of Gadag district. The deceased, Shankrappa, land owner and worker Basavaraj (32) fell into 40 feet borewell located in Shankrappa’s farmland when they were working on the removal of the casing pipe of the borewell as there was no water in it. The rescue operation by the firefighters, police and others involving 4 JCB machines to save the duo was in vain.
Thousands of people from around the village and nearby areas were gathered at the spot. Shankrappa is survived by his wife and three children whereas Basavaraj left his wife, three children including a daughter and two sons.
Meanwhile, the district administration has decided to release Rs 20,000 as temporary compensation for the two families. Also, Rs 5,000 cash will be distributed separately for each family for the funeral ceremony.
