UAE man sentenced to 60-days jail for calling fiancee ‘idiot’ jokingly

A man in Abu Dhabi had to pay the cost for referring his fiancee as an idiot after the latter took offense and filed a case against him.

The man it is gathered has been sentenced to 60 days in jail and has to pay a fine of 20,000 dirhams (Rs 4 lakhs).

According to Khaleej Times, the unnamed man had in a text message sent to his fiancee over Whatsapp referred to her as an idiot (habla in Arabic). Though he claims to have used the word in a jonial way his fiancee who thought otherwise lodged a case against him.

Notably, this is not the first time that someone has been jailed in UAE for a text message. According to the Sun, in January this year, a British citizen in Dubai was arrested and jailed for sending his car dealer an angry text message.
