Bengaluru: The state government has invoked the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against 61 people involved in the Bengaluru violence.
While the police detained over 300 people in connection with the incident, the UAPA was invoked against 61 people based on facts that emerged during the course of the investigation.
“All arrests are being made on basis of evidence. Wherever the accused are, we will find them,” said Kamal Pant, Bangalore City police commissioner
Meanwhile, the state government’s petition for recovery of losses from those who damaged public property during the recent Bengaluru violence has been listed for hearing at the high court on August 25.
Three people were killed in police firing, while the fourth one succumbed to injuries in the hospital, to contain violence targeting Congress MLA R Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy over a social media post put up by the legislator’s relative.
The rioters had also torched two police stations and some vehicles. Around 300 people have been arrested so far in this connection.
