Udupi: DC, SP asks religious activities be confined to home

Udupi: District deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha and police superintendant N Vishnuvardhan announced on April 8 that no religious activities should be held in the district during the lockdown and purchases of essential commodities should be carried out only from 7 am to 11 pm.

Speaking in a meeting conducted at the superintendant’s office on Monday, April 6 with religious leaders, the DC also stated that all upcoming religious festivals – Good Friday and Shab-e-Baraat – must be celebrated at homes in order to maintian social distancing norms.

SP Vishnuvardhan, reacting to a religious leader’s apprehension of hatred being spread against their community on social media sites, assured that action will be taken against those spreaing false news on the Internet, adding that the Cyber Cell would detect such people and act against them.
