Malpe: Fisheries Minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary on Friday, November 13 released the Kadalu app for fishermen and coastal security.

The app was released by the Poojary at Panjar Krishi Karyagara (Panjar Farm Workshop) at Moodukudru near Kalyanpura.

Speaking on the occasion Poojary said: “When natural disasters such as hurricanes and tsunamis occur, it is not known how many fishing boats and fishermen are in the sea. Hence the Fisheries Department and the Coastal Security Police (CSP) have developed a mobile app that provides accurate information to facilitate a rescue operation.”

“The main purpose behind this app is to keep track of the movements of fishing boats and to assist fishermen in trouble. Additionally, the information stored in the app will also help the Coastal Security Police during inspections as once you enter the boat number, you get all the information about the boat and the people in it,” said CSP Superintendent of Police, Chetan R.

It was also reported at the event that the app will be further developed to provide information on areas of the sea where more fishes are available and what is the condition of the sea. These updates will be developed with support from the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).

Deputy Directors of Fisheries Department Ganesh K and Parswanath, president of Fish Marketing Federation Yashpal A Suvarna, head of MIT Professor Manohar Pai, Kalyanpura Gram Panchayat PDO Yogita B, Kodavur ward councillor Vijaya Kodavur and others were present during the event.
