Udupi Sri-Krishna temple: Suvarna Gopura installation ceremony held

Udupi: The 100 kg golden tower (Suvarna Gopura) for the sanctum of the Sri Krishna was installed with all religious rituals on Thursday, June 6. It was dedicated by Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math.

The Seer also offered Sahasra Rajata Kalashabhisheka on Suvarna Gopura and was followed by the Swamijis of the other six Maths who also performed abhishekha. A grand ‘Brahma Kalashotsava’ will be held on June 9

Religious rituals like Thathva homa, Adhivasa homa, Shikhara prathishte, Shikara Kalasha pooja, Chakrabjamandala were held at the Krishna Math from the wee hours of the morning.

Dream project

The instllation of the Suvarna Gopura was a dream project of Sri Vidyadheesha Swamiji. Along with 200 kgs of copper and 800kgs of silver, more than 100 kgs of gold has been used in the making of the tower. The tower is 2500 sq ft and 40 grams of gold has been used for each square feet.

About Rs 32 crore has been spent on the making of this tower. However, around 80% of gifts were dedicated by the devotees and donors. Sri Vidyadheesha Swamiji has also offered diamond coat (cover) that cost Rs 3 crore to Lord Sri Krishna Math. The Swamiji is also responsible for the renovation of he throne and offered gold coated silver coat for the statues, in his first paryaya.

Korlahalli Venkatesh Acharya spoke to the media on the occasion and said, “There is an emotional bonding with the gold. The golden rays are very powerful and have disease resistance power. Gold can be used during emergency period like drought, famine and so on.  Our ancestors served the people by keeping the math for mortgage.  This Gopura was built with farsighted vision. Our nation stands on belief (astikate).”

Pejawar Seer performed abhisheka by climbing on the top of Kalasha to pour water. Besides, the religious rituals was participated by the newly appointed junior seer of Palimar Math Sri Vidyarajeshwar Theertha Swamiji.
