Udupi: Successful deliveries of 50 pregnant women with COVID-19 done at Dr TMA Pai Hosp

Udupi: Dr TMA Pai Hospital here has achieved a feat by successfully delivering babies of 50 COVID-19 positive pregnant women.

The first delivery of a baby from a COVID-19 positive woman was on May 27 and the fiftieth was conducted on October 3.

In addition to the 50 childbirths, more than 150 pregnant women of different ages in three, six, seven months of pregnancy have been treated for COVID-19 and returned healthy before delivery.

Shashikala K Bhat, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology said that not all childbirths were troublesome. We took special care of special concern for newborns and their mothers.

Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Shashikirna Umakant added that additional efforts are required during the infection to ensure the safety of the mother and child. Physicians and surgeons have successfully performed all childbirth and surgery with strict infection control precautions and patient care protocols. All patients were thoroughly evaluated according to the protocol. We have dedicated the hospital to treat COVID-19 patients with the active support of the district administration and the government.

Dr TMA Pai Hospital has a capacity of 150 beds and is a designated COVID-19 hospital. There are 8 intensive care units, 10 HDU beds, 50 beds in private rooms and 82 common ward beds.

Since April 1, 1,250 infected patients have been treated at the hospital.
