Udupi: Tempo driver assaulted by Police officials; ‘Tempo was being driven without permit’, says Cop

Udupi: A tempo driver was assaulted by police officials for not paying the fine in Moodubelle, Shirva in Udupi district
The victim identified as Shekhar Poojary was driving the tempo carrying asphalt which was owned by Hanumanthappa.
Police officials belonging to Shirva Police station were checking the vehicles in the Shirva town. When the tempo arrived, they asked the driver to pay Rs 500 as a fine but the driver denied it. He was then was asked to bring the tempo to the police station.
It is said that the driver was made to sit in the police jeep and assaulted by the police personnel
However, police sources said that Shekhar was not assaulted. The tempo was driving without a permit and he was asked to pay the fine. Shekhar denied and tried to sleep under the jeep after which he was taken to the police station. Later he was made to pay the fine and sent back
