Udupi: Over the last several years, innocent lives are being lost due to accidents occurring along the unscientifically constructed national highways; therefore Udupi ZP has decided to lodge criminal cases against NHAI engineers as well as the contractors responsible for the work causing deaths. The Zilla Panchayat passed a resolution in this regard on Tuesday June 25.
ZP members said that the entire stretch of the highway has been laid unscientifically with major lack of attention to safety issues. The authorities have failed to finish the work on service roads in places like Katapady and Padubidri leading to many accidents.
Concession pass
To a demand by ZP member Shashikanth Padubidri that concession needs to be given at Hejmady toll gate similar to Sasthan toll plaza, the NHAI officials said that NH work within Sasthan toll gate limits has been completed and therefore concession has been given to vehicle owners living within 5km range of the toll gate. Likewise, concession pass will be given to locals on completion of the work within Hejmady toll gate.
