A man has reportedly lodged a complaint against his wife and in-laws for celebrating Pakistan’s T20 World Cup victory against India on October 24.

Ishan Miya, a resident of Rampur’s Azim Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, claims that his wife Rabia Shamsi and her family burst crackers and posted a WhatsApp status celebrating Pakistan’s T20 World Cup victory.

Ankit Mittal, Superintendent of Police said, “An FIR has been registered after a case of making fun of the Indian cricket team came to our notice on the basis of a complaint made by a man.”

Section 153-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 67 of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 have been used to charge all of the defendants. A probe of the situation is presently underway.

A number of people have been arrested or imprisoned on identical allegations in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in the last week. On October 24, Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in a Super 12 encounter, their first win against their arch-rivals in a World Cup match in 13 attempts.
