Mangaluru: A sum of Rs 12 crore and Rs 7.5 crore has been allocated to the Public Works Department in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts respectively for the urgent repair of roads damaged by heavy rains, said Minister of Public Works Department C.C. Patil.
Speaking at Circuit House here on Saturday, the minister said, “I have already held a meeting with officials of the PWD in Mangaluru and collected information. Grants have already been released for emergency repairs of damaged roads.”
Further, Patil said that instructions have been given to repair the road as soon as the rain stops.
This time the state has received three times more rain than usual. The heavy rains have caused the roads to deteriorate, he said and added that the state government has already allocated Rs 200 crore to the public works department for the emergency repair of roads.
The minister said an additional Rs 300 crores of funds have been released to the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj for the repair of rural roads
Patil said PWD will carry out temporary patching up of the potholes. Permanent repair work will be taken up after the Monsoon season ends. Required funds will be released at the next stage, he added.
