Mangaluru: The leaders of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal, on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Mangaluru City Police Commissioner opposing the DJ parties and expressed their condemnation to DJ parties, indecent dances and parties where intoxicating drinks or substances are consumed on December 31, scheduled in some hotels, pubs and public places in the name of New Year.
The memorandum, which has also been addressed to the Superintendent of Excise Department of Mangaluru reads: It has come to our notice that DJ parties where liquor will be served have been planned in various hotels, pubs and public places in the city on December 31. The new year celebration is a western culture, and we condemn the same.
“Love Jihad has already rampant in the district and young girls are instigated to participate in such programmes. Therefore, the police department should not permit hotels or pubs to conduct such DJ parties. All the bars should be closed by 11 o’clock at night,” urged Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad in a petition submitted to city police commissioner T R Suresh on Wednesday, December 27.
The groups urged authorities not to issue any permission for any types of DJ parties and close down all establishments latest by 11 pm. Leaders of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad who met T R Suresh, city police commissioner on Dec 27, Wednesday alleged that some of the hotels and pubs in the city have organised vulgar dances and drug parties in the name of New Year celebrations.
The Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad have stated in the petition that the police department is directly responsible for any untoward incidents.
What’s their next move if permission is given to hold parties? “We will not protest, but we will think of our strategy once permission is issued,” answered Sharan.
