Bengaluru: The Visvesvaraya Technological University will start dual degree courses from this academic year.

All engineering students will be given an option to pursue another degree course relevant to their first degree course for an additional two years.

If students want to pursue a second degree course not related to the first degree course then they will have to study for an additional three years.

So if civil engineering students choose environmental engineering as a second degree course then they will have to study for two extra years and if they choose computer science engineering then they will have to study for three more years.

This system is being implemented to avoid the repetition of subjects as core subjects in related courses are the same.

Officials at the university said that only approvals are pending for the dual degree system and they are sure to introduce it this year.
