Due to the Covid-19 pandemic many businesses are suffering. Especially restaurants all over the world are facing the brunt. Now, restaurants in a few countries, rather than changing menu prices, they have just added the surcharge to the bottom of the bill, like a sales tax
Why is there a Covid-19 surcharge on the bill?
Businesses will have to add a surcharge or raise their prices altogether to stay profitable as nearly all businesses are feeling new pressures as the supply chain has been disrupted by lockdowns and increased demand in some sectors.
Recently, a tweet showing the receipt from Kiko Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Lounge in West Plains, Missouri went viral after a customer noticed “Covid-19 surcharge”

The restaurant’s owner and managing partner Billy Yuzar told that the 5% surcharge was implemented on May 6 following a noticeable price increase on meat, seafood and vegetables from their local supplier.
Also, Before implementing the fee, the restaurant posted signage outside on its front door, at the register, in the entryway and on social media to notify customers about the change.
It is said that, consumers in Michigan and San Diego have also reported seeing a new Covid-related fee on their restaurant bills.
