Mangaluru: In what seems to be a trend that’s caught up in Mangaluru, flyovers are being renamed after freedom fighters.
After Pumpwell and Thokkottu flyover a banner proclaiming ‘Bhagat Singh flyover’ was found hanging on the sidewalls of Surathkal flyover on Wednesday, June 4.
On Tuesday, June 3 banner proclaiming ‘Veer Savarkar flyover’ was found placed at the Pumpwell Flyover, later, the police removed it and on Wednesday a banner reading ‘Rani Abbakka flyover’ and a graffiti with Bajrang Dal written across the sidewalls was found on Thokkottu flyover.
It may be recalled that after the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike decided to name a flyover in Bengaluru after the freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar, opposition parties in Karnataka turned it into a matter of regional pride
