Uttar Pradesh is a gift that keeps on giving. The level of bizarre seems to be reaching new level every week, but this might me be the most outlandish of them all.

The locals of a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkarnagar had to witness an unusual event of a lucky draw which was carried out to select a groom for a girl who had allegedly eloped with four youths, various reports said.

It was reported that the panchayat members had to take such an unconventional measure as they claimed the girl had difficulty in choosing her life partner from among the youths. The tough situation came about being after four men eloped with the girl.

The youths who ran away with the girl are residents of a village under Azimnagar police station, while the girl hails from Tanda police station area, according to a report by Zee News.

The incident came to light after the girl’s family were able to learn of her whereabouts. Upon finding her, the family was determined to lodge a complaint against the four youths. However, the family was restrained by villagers from doing so.

The village panchayat then held a meeting regarding the incident and gave the family an alternative proposal of getting her married to one of the four boys.

According to the report, the girl was asked whom she wished to get married to but to everyone’s surprise, she wasn’t able to decide who she liked the most. It then led to the panchayat coming up with the bizarre idea of holding a lucky draw to select the groom on which all parties agreed.

They asked someone to write down names of the four youths and put it in a bowl and one piece of paper was drawn out of it which contained of the youth’s names. The decision was then finalised to get the girl married off to the man who’s name featured on that paper.
