Srinagar: Police today arrested a youth who had allegedly posted morphed photographs of his ex-girlfriend on social networking sites, labelling her an informer of the security forces in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Based on a complaint filed by the girl on February 7, police arrested Abrar Ahmad Mantoo on the charges of “falsely portraying her as informer of security forces”, a police official said.

The girl had alleged that one of her friends with whom she shared her pictures has misused them and circulated those on the social media after the two fell apart due to some reason.

She also claimed that some of those picture have been photo shopped and morphed which had put her life in danger by falsely portraying her as an informer.

“Based on her complaint, a case under sections of 354-D and 506 RPC (Ranbir Penal Code) was registered at Police Station Baramulla and investigation taken up,” the official said.

During investigation, it was found that Abrar Ahmad Mantoo, a resident of Hatmura in Anantnag district had uploaded these photographs on Facebook and were subsequently shared by some people on Facebook and Whatsapp, he said.

The official said while the accused has been arrested, those involved in circulating the photographs on social media have also been identified and will be dealt as per law.

Another police official had said yesterday that some of the pictures are morphed while others are of intimate nature which the girl might have shared with the youth while she was in relation with him.

He said the photographs in which the girl is holding an liquor bottle and pistol have been found to be morphed.
