Transport strike didn’t effect DK, Udupi districts

Mangaluru: The nation-wide transport strike did not have any impact in Udupi or Dakshina Kannada districts.
The Karnataka Sarige Road Transport Corporation buses were operating normally in DK and Udupi districts.
The buses plying to Kerala from Mangaluru was however affected partially due to the nation-wide transport strike. KSRTC buses from Mangaluru has 35 buses to Kasargod. Even Kerala State Road Transport Corporation operates 35 buses to Mangaluru.
Since Kerala followed a full bandh. Students coming from Kasargod to Mangaluru could not come over.
Motor Transport and Engineering Workers Union affiliated to CITU has urged the Centre to withdraw the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2017.
In a press release, General Secretary Vasanth Achary said that the Bill has an impact on bus, tempo, autorickshaw, maxicab employees, car and lorry drivers. The insurance premium amount should be reduced. The social security should be guaranteed to the labour class, he added.
