Polya crude bomb explosion case: accused nabbed

Mangaluru: A man from Kerala has been arrested by the Dakshina Kannada district police in connection with blasting a crude bomb that injured two people and damaged the victim’s house in Kabaka Polya in Puttur.
The arrested man has been identified as Babu (81), a resident of Arkula Pinakat of Kottayam district in the state of Kerala. The accused was absconding since October 16, when the explosion took place and the police were frantically searching for him. He was arrested from Alakkod of Kannur district on Friday, August 26th.
The arrested accused is known by several names like Babu, Balu, Baletta, Devasya, Sebastian, Kuttacchan and Mohammed. He is originally from Kerala. He is married and has children also, but has deserted them and lives a nomadic life.
The incident
The accused had allegedly used rock blasting explosives to make a crude bomb that was blasted at the house of Narayana Prasad, a caterer, on October 15. Due to the blast, Narayana and his wife Shalini, 35, were severely injured. The accused was staying at the victim’s house as a tenant.
Reportedly, the accused had planted about three bombs, one of which exploded. The remaining two bombs were recovered by the police. Three police teams were formed to nab the accused. The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him in police custody for five days.
