Smart bus shelter construction temporarily stopped: DC

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has directed related officials to temporarily stop the construction of smart bus shelters. He was presiding oer the smart city advisory committee meeting at his office on Saturday.

The smart bus shelters which are presently under construction has received much criticism and complaints from the public regarding its choice of location and design. Therefore, first build three model bus shelters. These model bus shelter will be inspected and on getting approval, go ahead with the building of the remaining bus shelters, he informed. Already the tender has been given for constructing altogether 27 smart bus shelters.

Work expected to catch pace

As the government has appointed Narayanappa as the full time MD for the smart city plan, the people are expecting for the work to gather pace in the coming days, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. When doing the work on the Pumpwell Bus Stand, the plan needs to be created by taking into account the flyover on the national highway, he added.

During the meeting, discussion was carried on various topics regarding the works to be implemented under the smart city project including the work on smart road from clock tower circle to A B Shetty circle, clock tower, Pumpwell bus stand, Hampankatta multi-level car parking, Central market and other issues.
