Kasaragod Saraswathi murder accused arrested

Kasaragod: A special team from Kasaragod led by ASP P Shilpa D has successfully arrested the murder accused of Gadag based woman Sarasu alias Saraswati (35) on Wednesday, January 9. The arrested is identified as Chandru Ramesh Kamble alias Sunil (39), a resident of Kerekoppa in Belagavi and was hiding in Thirthahalli.

The police were able to locate the accused even after he escaped after murdering Saraswathi on Dec 20 2018, changed his name to a person from Cherkala and procured a duplicate SIM for use. After the murder, his mobile was switched off.

On April 10 2017, Vidyanagara police had arrested Chandru during a excise raid along the national highway at Cherkala in which 24 bottles of 180 MLN were seized. He was acquitted in this case.

Since Chandru’s photo was available to the police from the beginning of the investigation, it had an effect on its progress. Later his photo was collected and the investigation was carried and it became useful in his arrest.

The investigation team which arrested the accused included Kasargod station circle inspector V V Manoj, sub inspector Ajith Kumar, ASI K M John, Pradeep Kumar, Narayanan, Laxmi Narayana, Rajesh, Manu, Lathish, Shijith, Rathish, Srikanth and Shivakumar.

He had come 4 years back

Chandru who had come to Kasaragod 4 years back was working as an interlock worker. He came in contact with Saraswathi from Cherkala and later moved in together at a rented house in Cherkala. On Dec 16th, Chandru saw Saraswathi with another man and the couple had a fight during the night on the same day. On Dec 17th too, they had a fight on the same reason and in the melee, Chandru hit Saraswathi in her head and murdered here.

The next day, Chandru spoke with the owner of the house and returned the key to his room informing that he and Saraswathi were going back to their hometown. However, on Dec 20th, the house owner ventured into the rented house where the couple livid to pick some work equipment only to find the murdered woman’s mortal remains there in.

The police immediately visited the spot, registered a case in this connection and commenced investigation when it came to light that the accused was working as a labourer at a farm in Thirthahalli since a week. On securing this vital lead, the police commenced a secret operation and were successful in nabbing the accused, inform the police.

Son of a rich man

Chandru’s father is a rich man in Belagavi. He is renowned in his area to be the first person to go to gulf and also the first person to buy a bullet bike. His Chandru left home when he was 12 years old and survived by doing odd jobs at various places. His father died recently and his sister lives in Mumbai.

Lead from Facebook

The accused was having a duplicate account in Facebook going by the name Badigara and through that he was contacting other people. During the investigation it was revealed that he was using a false account on Facebook and his photo was procured from this account which helped the investigation.
