#connectustomangalore campaign evokes good response

Mangaluru: #connectustomangalore, a campaign initiated by financial analyst Gopal Pai Maani has evoked a huge response from the public and has even gotten the attention of few of the coastal MLAs.

Following the snapping of the road connectivity between Mangaluru and Bengaluru, owing to the landslips in the Shiradi Ghat and the Sampaje Ghat, people have been deprived of access to an affordable mode of transport.

A mass campaign, launched on August 24 aimed to draw the attention of the authorities towards the plight of coastal youth who otherwise were frequent travellers on this stretch. As of Friday, the hashtag received 6,000 tweets and re-tweets.

Users tagged the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister’s office, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Minister Nitin Gadkari and others to their tweets to highlight the plight.

The campaign even got a response from Mangaluru North MLA, Y. Bharath Shetty and Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian.

In his tweet, Kotian assured that all legislators from the coast would ensure Bengaluru-Mangaluru connectivity while Bharath Shetty tweeted demanding an immediate solution for the problem.

Meanwhile, several other users, who joined the debate were of the opinion that travel on this route is always a pain and that nature's fury has only made it worse.
