Belagavi: A BJP legislator has incited shock with his remark that the May 12 state election is “not about roads and drinking water but rather about Hindu-Muslim episodes”. A video of the remarks by lawmaker Sanjay Patil is in wide flow in the media and has given rise to bitter view about the upcoming assembly elections.
Addressing a public meeting he legislator is heard saying in Kannada “I am Sanjay Patil, I am Hindu, this is a Hindu rashtra (country) and we need to build the Ram temple. If Lakshmi Hebbalikar (Congress candidate and leader of KPCC ladies’ wing) says she can build the mandir – vote in favor of her. They will construct Babri Masjid. Whoever needs Babri Masjid, Tipu Jayanthi they should vote in favor of the Congress. Also, who needs Shivaji Maharaj and Ram Mandir should vote in favor of the BJP,”
Sanjay Patil represents Belagavi Rural constituency in north Karnataka, near to the outskirt with Maharashtra. This isn’t the first occasion when one of his recordings have caused a wave. A year ago, Sanjay Patil is heard yelling and undermining a cop who was attempting to keep up order amid a bike rally.
