Sowmya, born on April 18th, hails from Bangalore and is the daughter of reputed playback, folk and devotional singer B K Sumitra and Sudhakar. As she puts it, singing was in her genes and at the tender age of 7, Sowmya began to sing on stage. Sowmya Raoh has sung for well known Music Directors including A R Rahman, Ilayaraja, Harris Jeyaraj, Hamsalekha, Sandeep Chowta, etc. Her playback career began in 1993 and she went on to claim the "Hottest Singer" award for the Telugu hit "Greekuveerudu" from the film "Ninna Pelladata". Sowmya moved to Mumbai in 2001 for a career in Bollywood and three years later, she won the STARDUST AWARD in 2003 as the Best New Singer for " Laila Laila" from SAMAY. Her more recent songs include Shauq Hai (Guru), Nach Le Ve (Tara Rum Pum), the hit title tracks of Welcome and Krazzy 4. God Father, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, Guru, Bheema in Tamil and Bindaas, Junglee in Kannada.
