Udupi: Ra 1,822 crore has been set aside to provide accommodation for policemen in the state and accordingly, fully equipped apartment buildings will be constructed at 290 different locations throughout the state. The work is expected to be completed by 2020.

Residential buildings will be created at 4 locations in Udupi district and 12 locations in DK district and accordingly, Rs 25.89 crore and Rs 95.32 crore will be spent for this project in both the districts respectively.

The project came into effect in 2013 and the aim was to complete it within 3 years. Due to some reasons, it got delayed. At some places, the work began only a year ago.

Fully equipped building

Accommodation will be provided from a police constable to officers based on their seniority. For among the staffs, accommodation will be provided based on the seniority of service within the station limits. The building will have latest facilities. Already existing buildings will be modernized and electrical and plumbing works will be undertaken here. At some places the work has been completed while at other places, it is in progress.

Kollur requires one too

Policemen serving within Kollur police station limits in Udupi district do not have any housing facility. A proposal has already been sent to the department requesting the construction of an apartment here as well. But the order for construction has not yet come.

2020-2025 scheme?

Even while the project is getting successfully completed in 2020, the blueprint for projects for the next five years is getting ready. The department needs to take notice of the requests demanding building and think about constructing the same within the limits of police stations who are in need of it.

The building construction is being done under the police apartment construction scheme throughout the state. In the district too, construction is progressing at 4 locations. The buildings will e fully equipped and will be provided based on the seniority of service – Nisha James, District Police Superintendent, Udupi, policemen housing scheme, DK,
