19 killed, several injured in landslides in Assam

Guwahati: At least 19 people were killed and several injured in landslides in south Assam’s Barak valley districts of Hailakandi, Karimganj, Cachar. Rescue teams have been rushed to these areas.

The landslide was triggered due to the incessant rainfall that has been lashing the region since the past two days.

The injured have been rushed to a nearest hospital.

Assam Minister Parimal Suklavaidya, who was in the town to review the COVID-19 pandemic situation, directed the district administration to immediately send its report on the landslide to the government for payment of Rs four lakh to the next of kin of each deceased, the official added.
